Sovereign States and Human Rights in a Global Society
Advancements in technology and the expansion of multinational corporations in recent decades, which have driven globalization, have blurred nation-state boundaries in both physical and virtual spaces. Additionally, the internet is a key advancement in globalization in the 21st century and has made information readily available. This raises the question of whether there is a need for the existence of a sovereign state.
However, these changes have increased the invasion of people’s rights and dignity. Moreover, conflicts between nation-states over territory have intensified in recent years.
This subunit aims to historically and philosophically trace the origins of the notion of sovereignty and examine the possibilities and limitations of sovereign states from the perspectives of economics, commerce, law, and politics.
